this is a personal project.
i just really like this song from King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Billabong Valley.
i had read about Mad Dog Morgan, an Australian bushranger referenced in the song, & i wanted to make a psychedelic reimagining of his story where mystic forces conspire against him.
PROCESS
i often like to sketch with highlighters, something about those lovely fluorescent colors!
after being hypnotized by this song playing in my earbuds, i just starting drawing little western-themed vignettes, i was particularly compelled by the idea that the sun was an eyeball watching Mad Dog——from there, i storyboarded the sequence of events.
once i solidified the order & pacing, i began to sketch the animation frame by frame. i kept the drawing style loose & a bit inconsistent to capture the ephemeral & almost erratic nature of the song.
