CHANGING OUR MINDS

this article covered the development of brainwashing during the Cold War era.

given the context, i wanted to create something that felt insidious & psychedelic, jumbled with key components of the story: fears of Communism, military, & mind-altering devices.

SKETCHES

here’s a view of some preliminary sketches i started off with to get a sense of how things began.

ATLAS OBSCURA

in defense of eating brains

in recent history, eating brains had fallen out of fashion——but all across the world, many cultures have long thought of these juicy morsels as quite the delicacy.

Atlas Obscura tasked me in creating poster-like illustrations that honored these dishes & perhaps even entice the viewer to try them out!

THE BAFFLER

NEVERNEVERLAND

this wild, horror-fiction short story surrounds a group of elderly ladies & one newfoundland dog that wreak havoc one night at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

here, i am evoking Japanese horror film, House (1977) rehashed to fit this story. this cult classic reference point immediately speaks to the elements of horror, comedy, & surreality that Neverneverland envelopes the reader into.

SKETCHES

i pitched a couple of concepts, one of them being silverware & jewelry under the moonlight——spoiler alert, these ladies are vampires!
